SASSA SRD R350 Grant Withdrwal Problems – Updated April

Press Release: 20 June

Due to technical issues at Postbank, payments of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant are once again being challenged.

After withdrawals at merchants including Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Usave started timing out on Wednesday morning, Postbank issued an apology to grant recipients.

Most applicants get their rewards through merchants.

Making a withdrawal at the Post Office is the alternate choice.

“Customers who are having trouble making SRD350 withdrawals at retail locations should accept Postbank’s sincere apologies.

Due to connection issues on our SRD350 payment services platform, this has happened.

As a matter of urgency, our IT staff have been charged with re-establishing connectivity, and some transactions are now processing smoothly.

We take any delays seriously, therefore we’re striving to get full service back “spokeswoman Bongani Diako said.

According to Diako, ATM and Postbank transactions are completely functional.

Contrary to rumors spreading on social media, Postbank Sassa gold cards were likewise completely functioning and had not expired.

All payments were halted last month due to technical issues that the Postbank encountered for many days.

The most recent round of SRD payments, which started on April 1, has been troubled.

The adoption of a stiffer means test starting on April 1 and a more onerous application process resulted in the rejection of more than half of those who applied for the R350 social relief of distress grant this time around.

Only 5.2 million of the 11.3 million applicants that submitted grant applications were accepted.

Only 70% of those who qualified got payouts in June.

Since then, the means test will be increased to R624 in order to include more individuals in the net, according to Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu.

Additionally, the primary criterion used to evaluate applicants will no longer be a bank verification cross-check.

Postbank promised to notify customers once the situation has been fixed.
