The "Tusk Rio Casino Resort" was the name given to the Rio Casino Resort when it first opened in May 2002.
Peermont Global bought Tusk Resorts in August 2006 and renamed it "Rio Casino Resort."
The property was purchased in order to achieve a significant rise in casino gaming and to improve lodging on territory where the business possessed gaming licenses.
A new Peermont Metcourt Rio Hotel and a new convention center were erected close to the resort shortly after, Peermont's first in the area, with just one other hotel establishment offering comparable conference facilities.
With a floor area of slightly over 266,000 square feet, it is Africa's largest casino.
